A rainy Saturday and a dry Sunday heralded the start of the new IAME Series Germany season last weekend in Mülsen, Saxony. Arena E offered full fields of participants in the X30 Juniors and X30 Seniors classes the first chance to test their strengths in 2024. Not only was the weather changeable, but the IAME one-make cup also showed its best side in heats and races and offered excitement.
X30 Juniors: Lars Ramaer puts the competition under pressure
A total of 36 juniors came together in Mülsen and filled the grid to capacity. There was no way around Lars Ramaer (SIM-ON) in the rainy qualifying session. On his Kosmic chassis, he secured pole position for both heats by a large margin, which he also won with comfortably. Even with a dry track on Sunday morning, everything seemed to be going according to plan in the Superheat, but a subsequent penalty cost Ramaer a perfect weekend and handed the Superheat success and the best starting position for the final to Marius Bonconseil (Ebert Motorsport). The latter initially converted his starting position into the lead, but had to concede defeat to his SIM-ON teammates Ramaer and Lukas Roos as the race progressed. Ramaer again won by a respectable margin. Moritz Weber (CV Performance Group) and Elias Titus (Dutt Motorsport by Fenster.com) completed the top five. Konstantin Titze (Dörr Motorsport) suffered a major setback in the championship. After promising performances in the heats, he had to retire prematurely in the final.
X30 Seniors: Kevin Lantinga wins in dominant fashion
With pole position ahead of 49 other seniors, the weekend got off to a perfect start for Dutchman Kevin Lantinga. However, the first heat of the weekend was won by reigning runner-up Nando Weixelbaumer (TB Racing Team). In the second heat, Lantinga underlined his ambitions with a victory. Daniel Guinchard (SFR Motorsport) dropped out of the first heat while leading due to a technical defect, but the Brit was not to be deterred from another success in the third heat. This meant that three different drivers from three different nations won on saturday.
The tide turned for a couple of drivers on Sunday with a change of weather. Lantinga was unimpressed in the first Superheat and could also not be beaten on slicks. The second Superheat was won by a familiar player who had not yet appeared on the scene this weekend, Phil Colin Strenge (Ebert Motorsport), who benefited from the retirement of Torben Gröndahl (CV Performance Group), who had been leading up to that point.
The finale was full of suspense in the run-up to the race, with slipstream battles familiar from previous years. But Lantinga wanted nothing of that. While his rivals were unable to agree on second place, the Croc-Promotion driver pulled away in the first few laps and was never caught again over the course of 14 laps. There was a surprise in second place: Davin Singer (CV Performance Group) impressed across the board and continued his good performance from the heats in the final. He took second place and, due to the guest start of the driver in front of him, also took the top spot in the standings. Another Dutchman, Jason Bralic (SIM-ON), finished just behind him on the podium. Max Ohsenbrink (KSL Racing Team) and Rocco Curcio (Valier Motorsport) took the other trophy places. The big loser in the senior category was Phil Colin Strenge, who did not get off to a good start to the season after winning the junior title last year and had to retire from the race early.
Outlook: Ampfing is just three weeks away
The IAME Series Germany continues in quick succession. In three weeks' time, it will be time for the second of the season's six stops in Ampfing, Bavaria. Due to the completely different track characteristics, there is a chance of new winners. Until then, championship leaders Marius Bonconseil (X30 Juniors) and Davin Singer (X30 Seniors) can look forward to their successes.
Das Wetter bestimmt die ersten Rennen der IAME Series Germany 2024
Ein verregneter Samstag und ein trockener Sonntag läuteten die neue Saison der IAME Series Germany am vergangenen Wochenende im sächsischen Mülsen ein. Die Arena E bot vollen Teilenehmerfeldern in den Klassen der X30 Junioren und X30 Senioren die erste Chance auf ein Kräftemessen im Jahr 2024. Nicht nur das Wetter war wechselhaft, auch in Heats und Rennen zeigte sich der IAME-Markenpokal von seiner besten Seite und bot Spannung.
X30 Junioren: Lars Ramaer setzt Konkurrenz unter Druck
Gleich 36 Junioren fanden sind in Mülsen zusammen und füllten das Grid bis auf den letzten Platz aus. In der verregneten Qualifikation ging kein Weg an Lars Ramaer (SIM-ON) vorbei. Auf seinem Kosmic Chassis sicherte es sich mit großem Abstand die Pole Position für beide Heats, die er ebenfalls souverän für sich entschied. Auch bei trockener Fahrbahn am Sonntagmorgen schien im Superheat alles nach Plan zu laufen, eine nachträgliche Strafe kostete Ramaer aber ein perfektes Wochenende und händigte den Superheat-Erfolg und die beste Ausgangslage für das Finale an Marius Bonconseil (Ebert Motorsport). Dieser setzte die Startposition zunächst in die Führung um, musste sich aber im Laufe des Rennens den heranfliegenden SIM-ON Teamkollegen Ramaer und Lukas Roos geschlagen geben. Ramaer gewann erneut mit Respektabstand. Die Top fünf komplettierten Moritz Weber (CV Performance Group) und Elias Titus (Dutt Motorsport by Fenster.com). Einen harten Rückschlag in der Meisterschaft musste Konstantin Titze (Dörr Motorsport) hinnehmen. Nach vielversprechenden Leistungen in den Vorläufen war im Finale vorzeitig Schluss.
X30 Senioren: Kevin Lantinga enteilt Positionskämpfen und siegt
Mit der Pole Position vor 49 anderen Senioren startete das Wochenende für den Niederländer Kevin Lantinga bereits optimal. Das erste Heat des Wochenendes entscheid aber der amtierende Vizemeister Nando Weixelbaumer (TB Racing Team) für sich. Im zweiten Vorlauf untermauerte Lantinga mit einem Sieg seine Ambitionen. Daniel Guinchard (SFR Motorsport) fiel aufgrund eines technischen Defekts in Führung liegend aus dem ersten Heat, im dritten Vorlauf ließ sich der Brite aber nicht nochmal von einem Erfolg abbringen. Damit gewannen drei verschiedene Fahrer, zudem aus drei verschiedenen Nationen.
Das Blatt wendete sich am Sonntag mit dem Wetterumschwung. Lantinga zeigte sich im ersten Superheat unbeeindruckt, auch auf Slicks konnte er nicht geschlagen werden. Das zweite Superheat gewann ein altbekannter, an diesem Wochenende noch nicht auf den Plan getretener Akteur, Phil Colin Strenge (Ebert Motorsport), der von einem Ausfall des bis dato Führenden Torben Gröndahl (CV Performance Group) profitierte.
Das Finale barg im Vorfeld große Spannung, bekannt waren Windschattenschlachten aus den letzten Jahren. Damit wollte Lantinga aber nichts zu tun haben. Während sich die Konkurrenz um den zweiten Platz nicht einig wurde, enteilte der Croc-Promotion Pilot gleich in den ersten Runden und wurde im Laufe der 14 Runden nichtmehr eingeholt. Auf Position zwei gab es eine Überraschung: Davin Singer (CV Performance Group) überzeugte in voller Linie und setzte seine gute Leistung aus den Vorläufen auch im Finale um. Er erkämpfte sich den zweiten Platz, aufgrund des Gaststartes seines Vordermannes, auch die Tabellenspitze. Knapp dahinter kam ein weiterer Niederländer, Jason Bralic (SIM-ON) auf das Podium. Die weiteren Pokalränge belegten Max Ohsenbrink (KSL Racing Team) und Rocco Curcio (Valier Motorsport). Der große Verlierer bei den Senioren war Phil Colin Strenge, der nach dem Titel bei den Junioren im letzten Jahr keinen guten Saisonstart erwischte und das Rennen vorzeitig aufgeben musste.
Ausblick: In nur drei Wochen steht Ampfing auf dem Programm
Schlag auf Schlag geht es in der IAME Series Germany weiter. Im bayrischen Ampfing ist es in drei Wochen Zeit für die zweite von sechs Saisonstationen. Aufgrund der gänzlich unterschiedlichen Streckencharakteristik besteht die Chance auf neue Sieger. Bis dahin dürfen sich die Tabellenführer Marius Bonconseil (X30 Junioren) und Davin Singer (X30 Senioren) über ihre Erfolge freuen.
